Forestry Technician (Recreation) – Winter Patrol

This Forest Service recreation technician job is based in Kooskia, Idaho, and centers on backcountry patrol. Duties include winter patrols of wilderness boundaries and wildlife closures, running recreation, trail and wilderness operations, counting users, monitoring trail conditions and doing trail construction and upkeep, with avalanche data collection and search and rescue support. Requirements are Level I American Avalanche Association certification or equivalent, first aid and CPR, a driver’s license, and the ability to use skis, snowshoes, ATVs and snowmobiles in deep snow. GS-5 takes a year of GS-4 level experience or a degree with relevant coursework.
