Ranchlands is taking applications for its 2027 apprenticeship at the Diamond Bar Ranch, a working cattle ranch on an island mountain range in north-central Montana, about 45 minutes from Havre and Chinook. Apprentices spend roughly seven months, from about mid-April to mid-November, doing mostly horseback cattle work along with doctoring, sorting, branding, weaning and preg-checking, plus heavy spring fencing, irrigation and equipment maintenance. Riding experience is preferred but not required; applicants must be at least 18 with a diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle for days off. The stipend is $1,200 per month and apprentices get a private room in a shared house; meals are not included. Applications are due November 15, 2026 through the Ranchlands apprenticeship page.
