California State Parks is hiring a seasonal Park Interpretive Specialist for Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area near Tracy, in the Diablo Range District’s Altamont Sector. Supervised by the sector manager with daily direction from a State Park Interpreter, the specialist leads interpretive programming: Junior Rangers, guided walks, evening programs, pop-up and booth programs at riding destinations, roving informal interpretation, school group visits and public outreach. The role also helps research and build new programs, interpretive panels and exhibits, supports the park’s social media, keeps interpretive exhibits and equipment clean and working, and handles basic administrative tasks. Holidays and weekends are part of the schedule. This is non-tenured intermittent seasonal work paid at the state’s Park Interpretive Specialist hourly range. A background check and valid driver’s license are required. State housing is not available.
