Intermountain Region forests want senior firefighters to run wildland engines in 2027, at Idaho stations such as McCall, Stanley, Ketchum, Cascade and Idaho City, plus Utah sites including Heber City and Logan and Mountain View, Wyoming. You operate the engine on wildfires and prescribed burns, may act as incident commander, make field repairs and take part in training and safety sessions. GW-5 requires a year of GW-4 level experience or a related four-year degree, along with FFT1 and S-290 documented on an IQCS Master Record; red cards are not accepted. The arduous pack test, medical screening and random drug tests apply. Expect a start between April 18 and June 13, 2027, on a temporary appointment of up to 6 months or a year. Pay is $25.37 an hour at the base rate; government housing varies by location and relocation is not paid.
