DEC’s Buffalo office is hiring a seasonal technician to help a regional biologist with a wild turkey survival study. You would find flocks through scouting and reports from hunters and the public, get landowner permission, tend bait sites and trail cameras, and help capture turkeys with rocket nets or air cannons before banding, sampling and releasing them. Expect rough terrain, bad weather, very early mornings and late evenings, plus some overnight travel. The minimum is 30 college credits, including 12 in wildlife, fisheries, ecology or a similar subject, plus a driver’s license or another way to meet the job’s travel needs. The temporary appointment is expected to end March 31, 2027, and pays $20.20 an hour. Apply through the New York State Jobs posting by November 13, 2026.
