Ranch Management Apprentice

A north-central South Dakota family ranch that runs multiple cattle enterprises on adaptively grazed native range is offering a long-term apprenticeship aimed at someone who wants to grow into managing a complex operation. The apprentice works cattle daily, moves herds of up to 500 head through the grazing rotation, feeds through the winter, maintains about 120 miles of fence, keeps herd health and financial records, and gradually takes on marketing, purchasing and staff decisions. The ranch wants a coachable self-starter with a ranch background and an ag or business degree who is willing to commit for five to ten years. Starting salary is $55,000 with housing included.
