The Eastern Region is hiring 2027 crewmembers at stations in Minnesota (Ely, Grand Marais, Tofte, Walker), Michigan, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. You would work an engine, hotshot, helitack or hand crew with hand tools and power saws, apply water, patrol lines and pile slash, and may help with recreation, timber or reforestation between fires. Six months of general experience qualifies, or a year of related education or fire training, and high school fire training counts too. You must pass the arduous pack test and medical standards, drug testing and a background check. Start dates fall between April 18 and June 13, 2027, for up to 6 months or a one-year appointment. Base pay is $21.14 an hour and varies by location; housing varies by station and relocation is not paid. Apply on USAJOBS by 11/12/2026.
