The Northern Region is hiring senior firefighters for 2027 helitack crews, with bases listed at Coeur d’Alene and Grangeville, Idaho, plus Montana sites including Missoula, Helena, Hamilton, Libby and Gallatin Gateway. The crew loads people and cargo, completes manifests, maintains gear and may rappel or step out of helicopters in remote country to clear helispots or attack fires. GW-5 takes a year of GW-4 level experience or a related four-year degree, and you must hold FFT1 and S-290 and attach your IQCS Master Record, since red cards are not accepted. You also need to pass the arduous pack test and medical screening. Start dates run April 18 to June 13, 2027, on a temporary appointment of up to 6 months or a year. Pay is $25.37 an hour at the base rate; government housing varies by station and relocation is not reimbursed. Apply on USAJOBS by 11/12/2026 with a resume of no more than two pages.
