A permanent technician job on an invasive species strike team working three national wildlife refuges on Kauai. The core of it is survey and control: planning and running surveys of invasive plants and animals, then recommending which management approach fits what the survey found. The technician applies integrated pest management including pesticide and herbicide treatment and helps put wider control measures into effect. Alongside the field work there is data and reporting, building databases and preparing technical reports with GIS, plus operating field equipment and small watercraft and giving direction to staff and volunteers on field jobs. Advertised at GS-7 and based at Kilauea, Hawaii. One caution for applicants: the announcement closes early if it reaches one hundred and twenty-five applications.
