Wildlife Area Manager – Marquez/L-Bar Wildlife Management Area

The New Mexico Department of Wildlife is hiring a non-supervisory area manager for the Marquez/L-Bar Wildlife Management Area, roughly 68,000 acres of remote country west of Albuquerque ranging from 6,000 to 9,000 feet. The department provides on-site housing and the manager is expected to live there, about 34 driving miles from Laguna, the nearest town. The work is largely solo field work with little day-to-day supervision: maintaining roads and fences, developing wildlife water and wells, growing roughly 55 acres of crops for wildlife under a pivot, manipulating habitat, and inspecting and repairing several houses and outbuildings. The manager also builds and keeps a running operations and maintenance project list with the program manager, manages public access and outreach, and oversees contractor work.
