Squad boss on a twenty-person initial attack handcrew in DNR’s Southeast Region, stationed at Dallesport on the Columbia. The position gives direct fireline supervision on grass, brush and timber fires and is available for district, region, statewide and interagency dispatch covering initial attack, extended attack, mop-up, patrol and rehab. Qualified incumbents may fill ICS roles such as Type 4 or Type 5 incident commander or single resource boss. Away from fire the crew runs prescribed burning, home ignition zone assessments under Wildfire Ready Neighbors, non-commercial thinning, slash abatement, tree marking and road brushing. The posting is candid about demanding above-average endurance, long irregular hours and strenuous work in poor conditions. Permanent full-time represented position; relocation compensation may be considered and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
