Seasonal Wildland Firefighter – 2027 Season (applications open November)

Washington State Department of Natural ResourcesOlympia, Washington · Pacific Northwest

Washington DNR hires several hundred seasonal firefighters every year for engine, hand crew and support roles at region and district offices across the state, and its recruitment page says the application period opens each November with hiring continuing into spring. Seasons typically run three to six months, starting as early as April or May and wrapping up in late September or October. The agency supplies training, safety clothing and protective gear; you need to be able to do strenuous outdoor labor, provide IS-700 and ICS-100 completion certificates, and pass the DNR pack test before starting. Postings will appear on the state’s governmentjobs.com portal under DNR Fire & EMS, so this is a good one to bookmark now for the 2027 season. Pay and housing are not listed on the overview page.
