Alaska’s Division of Forestry and Fire Protection is recruiting a seasonal superintendent for the White Mountain Type 2 initial attack hand crew, one of the state’s three organized crews, based at Fairbanks Area Forestry. The superintendent leads the crew on 14 to 21 day assignments in remote Alaska, Canada and the Lower 48, acts as incident commander on initial and extended attack fires, and handles crew timekeeping, evaluations, purchasing and training. The crew also works on hazardous fuels projects between fires. Minimum qualifications are a year of journey-level wildland fire or forestry field experience (such as a State of Alaska Technician 3) and a current red card; college forestry or fire coursework can replace part of the experience. An Alaska driver’s license is required, and the post is open to all applicants. Pay is $37.10 per hour, and applications close November 13, 2026 on the Alaska state jobs portal.
