This is the entry grade in the Forest Service temporary crew series and the one with no experience requirement to speak of. Crew members do standardised forestry support work under close supervision: timber cruising with tapes and field instruments, monitoring recreation areas for compliance and upkeep, trail maintenance, campsite restoration and data collection with specialised forestry equipment. Much of it is hand tool work, including wilderness improvement projects and support for Leave No Trace education. Duty stations named in the announcement include Blairsville Georgia, Tijeras New Mexico, Las Vegas Nevada and Huger South Carolina, with location negotiable after selection. Appointments are temporary and full-time, up to six months with possible extension to a year. Starts fall in the November to December window. Government housing varies by location and is not guaranteed.
