The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is hiring a seasonal Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Aid for the Los Banos Wildlife Area in Merced County. Under a senior environmental scientist supervisor, the aide helps run the hunter check station: checking hunters in and out of the area, issuing permits, answering questions about hunt program regulations, recording take data and filing reports. The rest of the work is habitat and facility upkeep, including litter cleanup, cleaning check stations and restrooms, minor repairs, putting up and taking down public hunt signage, and collecting wildlife carcasses during die-off events. The aide also services wheel tractors, discs, rotary mowers, light trucks and agricultural pumps, installs and removes water control structures, preps ground and plants and irrigates wildlife food crops and native plants, and applies herbicides with proper record keeping. Weekends, holidays and odd hours are expected.
