The Oregon Department of Forestry is building a pool of winter seasonal Natural Resource Specialist 1 employees based at Veneta, with the season estimated to run October 2026 through June 2027 and again the following winter. The work is fuels reduction: coordinating hazard abatement projects on the ground, acting as liaison to rural fire districts, extension agents, cities and counties, and giving private landowners technical advice on fire planning and fuel treatment practices. The specialist administers federal grant projects ODF already holds, from signing landowners up and inspecting properties to estimating work, checking completion and requesting reimbursement, and documents progress with GPS and occasionally GIS. Reports, budgets and grant deliverables are part of the load. The position also supports wildfire operations, including district fire staffing and possible off-district assignments. ODF notes preference goes to prior winter-season employees.
