A pay band C5 ranger position assigned to Fenton Lake State Park in the Jemez Mountains northwest of Santa Fe. The ranger assists visitors, enforces state law, keeps grounds and facilities clean and safe, and supports interpretive education programming. Law enforcement duties include regular patrol of campground facilities and area waters, checking compliance with park rules, responding to emergencies and rescues, issuing citations, making arrests, conducting investigations, writing reports and appearing in court. The role requires attending law enforcement training to hold a commission. Beyond enforcement, the ranger operates power tools, vessels and heavy equipment and performs maintenance on grounds, roads, trails, park facilities and the vehicle fleet. The position generally supervises and trains seasonal staff and volunteers and stands in when park managers are unavailable.
