VFDA, the nonprofit that runs the Solomon Gulch salmon hatchery in Valdez, is reposting two Fish Technician IV openings in September 2026. The crew works week on, week off in 12-hour shifts that rotate between days and nights; on nights you are solely responsible for the fish and the hatchery’s security. It is pitched as a stepping stone for people who want to become fish culturists but still need training, so a high school diploma or GED is the minimum and salmon culture experience is a plus. The work is physical, with lots of standing, walking and lifting up to 50 lbs. Starting pay is $28.55 an hour DOE with health, dental, vision and a matched 401(k). Email the VFDA application, a cover letter and a resume, or drop them at the Valdez office.
