Great Smoky Mountains National Park is hiring two GS-5 forestry technicians for its winter vegetation crew, based at park headquarters near Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The crew works on forest insect and disease surveys and treatments, controls and monitors more than 75 invasive plant species, and supports ecological restoration across the 810-square-mile park, with some chances to lead small groups of staff and volunteers. Expect strenuous off-trail hiking in steep terrain, loads over 50 pounds, weather from hot and humid to snow, and multi-day backcountry camping trips. This is a full-time temporary appointment of up to 1,039 hours; the season typically runs November to April, with a start expected in November or December 2026. Pay is $19.52 to $25.37 an hour.
