North Star Fishing Company, part of the Glacier Fish group, needs a licensed mate for the Unimak, one of three head-and-gut trawl catcher-processors fishing the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands and Gulf of Alaska. The mate navigates the ship, directs fishing on the night watch, keeps the log, and acts as onboard safety officer and fire team leader, and may command the vessel when the master is off. A USCG Uninspected Fishing Industry Vessel license of at least 1,600 GT is required, along with three or more years fishing aboard H&G vessels in Alaskan waters. Expect 12-hour days, seven days a week in any weather. Pay is a crew share with no guaranteed wage, and room and board are included. Apply through the Glacier Fish Lever job page.
