Rainy Pass Lodge, a fly-in moose and bear operation in the Alaska Range, brings new hunting staff on as packers and develops them into assistant guides. Expect to spend about two seasons packing, which means hauling moose quarters and gear, working horses, and learning the ground and the animals, before the lodge helps you get your assistant guide license and moves you into a guide role. The main season is August and September, with some May and October work. The clientele is high-end and tips are described as above average; staff get good quarters and food. Pay is not published. Apply through the contact form on the lodge site.
