Reindeer Handler & Guide – Fall/Winter Season (through April 12)

Borealis Basecamp outside Fairbanks is hiring a seasonal reindeer handler to care for its herd and lead guest walks and tours. Daily work includes feeding, cleaning and maintaining the enclosures, handling and training the animals, helping with veterinary care, tracking feed and supplies, and teaching guests about reindeer and Alaska wildlife, plus about one day a week at the adventure desk. Prior livestock or reindeer experience is required, along with the ability to run an ATV or snowmobile, earn a Wilderness First Responder certification (company training is offered) and work outdoors every day in Arctic conditions. The season is listed as ending April 12. Pay is $20 an hour plus a $1.50-per-hour completion bonus, and shared on-site housing costs $10.50 a day with staff-prepared lunch and dinner and a self-serve breakfast included.
