A uniformed front-line interpretation job at Yellowstone, based in West Yellowstone, Montana. The guide answers visitor questions, leads interpretive walks and tours, delivers pre-written programs, orients hikers heading out on trail, and collects fees. Groups on longer programs can run up to fifty people. The appointment is permanent career-seasonal at GS-5, with roughly eleven months in pay status each year covering January through October plus December and a non-pay month in November. Travel is up to twenty-five percent and can include up to five overnights a month. Because this uses the local hiring authority, applicants must already live in Gallatin or Park County Montana, Park, Sublette or Teton County Wyoming, or Fremont County Idaho.
