The operator drives and runs the engine as second-in-command of the module, sizes up fires, assigns the crew, and may act as initial attack incident commander when the captain is away; project work supports fuels and ecosystem restoration. Applicants need Engine Boss and Incident Commander Type 5 qualifications plus the S-211 pumps course. Government housing may be available and tours guarantee at least 13 full-time pay periods.
