Wildland Firefighter (Fire Suppression) – Pacific Northwest/Northern Rockies

Permanent entry-level firefighter positions across Forest Service Regions 1, 4, 6 and 10 for the 2027 season, with well over a hundred duty stations in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Alaska (Bend is one of roughly fifty Oregon options). You would work on an engine, hotshot, helitack or hand crew doing suppression, patrol and prescribed burning. Applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 and generally under 37, hold a driver’s license, pass drug testing and pass the arduous work capacity test (3 miles with a 45 lb pack in 45 minutes). Six months of general work experience qualifies for GW-3; the announcement notes government housing may be available at some stations. This is Phase 1 of the 2027 permanent fire hire and it closes September 22, 2026.
