Entry-level permanent Forest Service firefighter jobs spread across roughly 170 duty stations, most of them in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona plus units in Wyoming, the Great Lakes, the Ozarks and the East. Crews are assigned to an engine, hand crew, hotshot or helitack module, building line with hand tools and saws, running pumps and drip torches, and mopping up; off-fire time can go to fuels, recreation or timber projects. GW-3 needs six months of any general work experience (ranch, nursery or volunteer work counts), you must be 18 or older, and passing the arduous work capacity test is a condition of hire.
