The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is direct-hiring experienced firefighters at GW-4 to GW-6 for engine, hotshot, helitack, handcrew, fuels and wildland fire module crews at more than 80 locations, including Casper, Rawlins, Worland, Buffalo and Yellowstone in Wyoming, Fairbanks in Alaska, and stations across Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Washington. At the GW-6 level the job is a senior firefighter: building line, running hose lays and pumps, mopping up, reading weather and fuels, working prescribed fires and sometimes leading on the fireline. Each grade requires a year of experience at the next lower level, such as organized fire crew or suppression work. Positions are permanent career-seasonal, with full benefits but some non-pay time each year and frequent travel during busy fire periods. Pay is listed as $48,424 to $74,970 a year depending on grade and location. Apply on USAJOBS by 10/23/2026 and pick each location you want.
