A step-up position for firefighters who already hold a red card: senior crew members on engines, hotshot, helitack and hand crews who may lead a squad and run pumps, hoses and other specialized equipment. Duty stations span Regions 1, 4, 6 and 10, including roughly forty locations each in Idaho, Montana and Oregon (McCall is among the Idaho options), plus Washington, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Alaska. You need NWCG Firefighter Type 1 and S-290 documented in IQCS, U.S. citizenship, to be under the age-37 cutoff or hold a waiver, and to pass the arduous work capacity test and drug screening. Government housing may be available. Part of the 2027 permanent fire hire closing September 22, 2026.
