Northwest Youth Corps is filling a fuels-reduction crew that camps together in communities across Eastern Oregon from September 22 to December 18, 2026, working 10 days on and 4 off. Members clear defensible space around homes and critical infrastructure and train with chainsaws, brush cutters and power pole saws. Introductory wildland fire courses (S-130/S-190, L-180 and others) may be offered, which can qualify you for a pack test. Crews unplug from phones during work hours. Candidates should be 19 to 26 with current First Aid/CPR or be able to get it, and Eastern Oregon applicants are preferred. The term pays a $9,000 stipend spread monthly plus a $1,956.35 AmeriCorps education award, with meals and camping covered on workdays. The crew meets in Pendleton, and NWYC provides transport to training in Eugene.
