A permanent hatchery job with the Fish and Wildlife Service at Whiteriver in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. The biologist handles the daily operational work of a large salmonid hatchery: incubating eggs, cleaning raceways and tanks, grading fish, sample counting and running inventory. The position also monitors water quality, does disease diagnostics, and manages fish transport and release, plus facility maintenance and public education programs. The schedule can include on-call, evening, weekend and overtime hours, which is normal for a working hatchery. It is advertised at GS-7 through GS-9 under the 0482 fish biology series, so it suits someone with a fisheries or aquaculture background rather than a first-season applicant.
