Fisheries Biologist 1

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is hiring a Fisheries Biologist 1 in Kalispell, a field-based technician role in the northwest corner of the state. The position builds yearly and daily work plans from goals set by area fisheries managers, establishes sampling sites and runs the methods used to monitor fish populations and habitat conditions, then enters, summarizes, analyzes and quality-checks that data and writes it up in reports. Gear care is part of the job: buying, maintaining, repairing and operating boats, outboard motors, vehicles, electrofishing units, nets and specialized fisheries survey equipment. The incumbent also manages out-flows at Ashley Lake Dam under its management plan, catalogs flow and staff gage data, coordinates the annual dam safety inspection, performs dam maintenance and drafts a yearly state-of-the-lake letter.
