A pay band C3 hatchery technician position at the Los Ojos Fish Hatchery in northern New Mexico, helping produce and distribute coldwater fish for stocking waters statewide. Day to day the culturist visually evaluates production inventories, rearing units and the facility itself to judge conditions, cleanliness and overall fish health, then decides the best approach to the day’s work and reports anything unusual to a supervisor. The role covers assigned production, distribution and maintenance tasks, participation in daily fish propagation, and prioritizing work to use time efficiently. The posting also lists maintaining hatchery equipment and the facility as a core purpose. The ideal candidate has prior fish hatchery or fish health experience, or another animal husbandry setting such as aquaculture, ranching or farming, plus an associate degree in a related science.
