A seven-month non-permanent hatchery appointment with WDFW’s Fish Program at Soos Creek Hatchery in Auburn, King County, expected to start in mid-October. The technician rears anadromous and inland species: feeding by pond population and weight sample, cleaning raceways, troughs, screens and incubators, grading and inventorying fish, assisting with spawning, moving fish with pumps, brails and cranes, and running quality control on coded-wire-tagged and mass-marked fish. Daily records of feed, mortality and water temperature are kept, and chemicals including formalin, peroxide and anesthetics are handled under safety protocols. Standby duty is currently assigned to the position. Housing is not provided, though an on-site travel trailer with utilities is available for standby shifts.
