Fishing crew jobs are the seasonal work that keeps the catch moving once it hits the dock, mainly in Alaska seafood processing plants and fishing lodges. They are common Alaska fishing jobs for newcomers because plants hire first-timers: Alaska General Seafoods says most first-year employees sort, head, gut, clean, grade and pack fish, work the can line or process roe.
More About Fishing Crew Jobs
Processing plants pay by the hour. Silver Bay Seafoods starts processors at $17.91 an hour, pays 1.5 times the rate after 8 hours in a day or 40 in a week, and says peak days run up to 16 hours, 7 days a week. It charges $15 a day for room and board, reimburses half if you finish the season, and flies you from major U.S. airports with a return flight on completion. Alaska General Seafoods hires more than 900 seasonal workers for Naknek and Ketchikan and covers room, board and flights. Trident Seafoods charges $15 a day after an 8-hour shift and houses workers 2 to 6 to a room. These are fishing jobs with room and board in the literal sense.
Fishing lodges pay monthly. Kingfisher Charters in Sitka says housekeeping and serving staff can average $4,000 to $5,000 a month with overtime, tips and an end-of-season bonus, with free staff housing and meals, for a season from May 15 to September 15.
The fishery sets the hours, and the work is hard and repetitive. Alaska counted 15,348 nonresident seafood processing workers in 2024, 81.5 percent of the industry’s workforce. The state’s labor department warns that published materials boast of lucrative jobs and that for every success there are many failures. Questions About Fishing Crew Jobs
How many fishing crew jobs are open right now?
26 listings are live on WildWork as of October 29, 2026. 10 state their pay and 14 include housing.
What do fishing crew jobs pay?
The median posted rate is $18.87/hr across 5 current listings that state pay in that unit, with posted rates from $17/hr to $32.33/hr. These are advertised rates; tips, overtime and room and board are extra where the listing says so.
Do fishing crew jobs come with housing?
54% of current listings say the employer provides housing, free or at a charge, and 35% include meals. Each listing shows whether housing is included and what it costs when the employer says.
Do Alaska fishing jobs pay for your flight?
The big processors do. Silver Bay Seafoods provides airfare from major airports near your home to its Alaska plants, and a return flight if you finish the season. Trident Seafoods provides roundtrip airfare from its approved hub airports, and Alaska General Seafoods says it covers flights for its processing crews. The return flight depends on finishing, so read the terms before you sign.
How much do Alaska cannery workers make an hour?
Silver Bay Seafoods starts processors at $17.91 an hour. Alaska wage law requires 1.5 times pay for hours over 8 in a day or 40 in a week, and Silver Bay says peak-season days run up to 16 hours, 7 days a week, so overtime adds up fast. Room and board cost $15 a day, and half is reimbursed if you complete the season.
Can you get an Alaska fishing job with no experience?
Yes, in processing and lodge work. Alaska General Seafoods hires more than 900 seasonal workers a year and says most first-year employees sort, head, gut, clean and pack fish or work the can line. Kingfisher Charters in Sitka says it will train staff with a customer service background and an ability to learn.
How long is an Alaska salmon processing season?
It depends on the plant and the run. Alaska General Seafoods runs its Bristol Bay plant in Naknek from mid-June to late July and its Ketchikan plant from late June to early September. ADF&G forecast a 2026 Bristol Bay sockeye run of 45.32 million fish, in a forecast issued November 13, 2025.
How do you spot a fake Alaska fishing job?
Be wary of promises of easy money. Alaska’s Department of Labor warns that published materials boast of lucrative jobs in canneries and on fishing boats, that for every success there are many failures, and that a vessel with many crew vacancies during the harvest season warrants investigation. Silver Bay Seafoods, for example, publishes its starting wage, room and board charge and airfare policy.
