The Forest Service fills its temporary natural resources crews through one consolidated announcement per grade, and this is the GS-5 version. Work rotates across three programs. Timber duties are cruising stands, marking trees for sale and recording field measurements. Recreation duties cover trail and campground maintenance, campsite restoration, visitor contacts, fee collection and compliance patrols. Range duties include counting livestock, checking allotment fences and watching for trespass. Crews also collect the field data that feeds unit planning. The announcement spans Globe, Arizona and more than a hundred other duty stations and the hiring unit assigns the specific forest after selection, so applicants should expect to state location preferences. Appointments are temporary and full-time, up to six months and extendable to a year without further competition. The agency says government housing exists at some locations but does not promise it.
