The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is filling a Fish and Wildlife Technician position at Hot Creek Hatchery near Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierra. Reporting to a Fish Hatchery Manager, the technician handles fish culture work: rearing and caring for wild, domestic and endangered fish, giving injection vaccinations, and stocking waters across the region. The hire must be able to obtain a Class A or B commercial driver license with tank endorsement within the first year to run the hatchery’s planting truck. Other duties include responding to alarms, power outages and standby emergencies, plus maintenance, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work. Physical demands include lifting 40 pounds, swimming 50 yards, negotiating 12-inch catwalks over open water and working in 54-60 degree water. The employee is required to live in state-owned housing at the hatchery. Twelve-month limited term with full benefits.
