Arctic Storm, a Seattle-based company running factory trawlers in the Bering Sea and North Pacific, keeps an open processor posting on its applicant portal for seasonal trips whose length depends on the fishery. Processors head, gut, fillet, sort, freeze and package fish and take part in sanitation and vessel safety routines, working 12 to 16 hours a day, seven days a week while at sea. Pay is a crew share with level raises set by the factory manager; the company supplies a bunk, room and board, Wi-Fi, on-the-job training, and 401(k) and medical benefits after qualifying periods. Applicants need to be physically able to stand long hours, lift up to 60 pounds and climb steep stairways, understand English for safety instructions, and bring their own rain gear, bedding and a 90-day supply of any medications. The company enforces a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
