The licensing rule to know: anyone paid to guide fishing, hunting, rafting or other outdoor activities on land or water they do not own must register with the Oregon State Marine Board as an Outfitter Guide under ORS Chapter 704. The 2026 fee is $350. If you work for a fishing guide and lead or assist anglers, you must be registered yourself; other employees are listed by their outfitter and must carry first aid and CPR. What do outdoor jobs in Oregon pay?

How do I apply for a seasonal ODF firefighter job?
Apply on the State of Oregon jobs site, oregonjobs.org. ODF’s South Cascade District accepts applications January through June but says most positions are filled by April, so apply early. You must be at least 18, hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and pass the Work Capacity Test: a 3 mile hike on level terrain in 45 minutes carrying a 45 pound pack. The district says free summer housing may be available at guard stations in Dorena, Holeman or Sweet Home.
When does the Forest Service hire firefighters in Oregon?
The current round of permanent Forest Service fire jobs is open on USAJOBS August 24 to September 22, 2026, with duty stations in Alaska, Washington and Oregon and grades GW-3 to GW-10. Any U.S. citizen or national at least 18 can apply, and you can apply for several locations. The Pacific Northwest Region also hires through a Wildland Firefighting Apprenticeship Program: 3,000 hours of paid on-the-job training that leads to a permanent GS-5 firefighter job.
Do I need a license to guide in Oregon?
Yes. If you accept pay to guide fishing, hunting, rafting, hiking or similar activities on land or water you do not own or control, you must register with the Oregon State Marine Board. For 2026 the fee is $350 a year, or $500 for Charter Guides with a Coast Guard license. You need a first aid and CPR card with hands-on testing and at least $500,000 in liability insurance. Guiding without a current registration is a Class A misdemeanor.
What does rent cost in Bend?
HUD’s fiscal year 2026 fair market rent for the Bend-Redmond metro area, which is Deschutes County, is $1,371 a month for a one-bedroom and $1,784 for a two-bedroom. In fiscal 2025 the same figures were $1,318 and $1,667. If a Bend-area job does not include housing, plan your budget around rents at that level before you accept.
